Get introduced to the Healthy you, to the Beautiful you, to the Real you
Discovered thousands of years ago by sages, Ayurveda still occupies a prized place in daily lives of people. It is a lifestyle and an ancient health system aimed at complete harmony of body, mind and soul. In simple words it is a healthy lifestyle. The term Ayurveda consists of two words, 'Ayur', meaning 'life', and 'Veda', meaning 'knowledge'. It can be practiced in daily life to enjoy good health. By making Ayurveda an integral part of our daily routine we can enjoy a healthy and long life.
Ayurveda prescribes a specific daily routine( dincharya) for maintaining good health and enjoying happy life. By following this routine one can prevent illness and can also get rid of almost any disease. The various stages of this dincharya are:
One's dincharya should be in accord with the doshas (the physical energies). According to Ayurveda all the ailments and diseases in a human body arise due to the imbalance of the three doshas namely Vatta (air element), Pitta( fire element) and Kapha ( water element). Vata is dominant from 2 to 6 in the morning and afternoon. Kapha is dominant from 6 to 10 in the morning and evening, and Pitta is dominant during midday and midnight.
Someone has rightly said "early to bed early to rise makes the man healthy, wealthy and wise". The best time to wake up is at sunrise as it keeps the body and mind fresh all day long. Drink at least one glass of warm water when you wake up.
Morning is the best time to get rid of the body's physical waste. Drinking a glass of warm water facilitates easy elimination of the wastes.
Cleanliness goes a long way in maintaining good health. We must brush our teeth at least twice daily and should sometimes gargle with salt water. Take bath in clean water and wear clean clothes. Also trim your hair and nails regularly.
Exercise should be one of the most essential parts of our daily routine. It keeps our body fit, strengthen our muscles and keeps us energetic throughout the day. Yoga is the best exercise.
Massage comes with multi-benefits such as enhanced blood circulation, easy elimination of metabolic wastes, rejuvenation of body and healthy skin. If possible use herbal or medicated oil for massage. Massage your body regularly and don't forget to massage your head at least twice a week.
Meditation occupies a special place in Ayurvedic dincharya. It is a perfect therapy for body, mind and soul, which keeps them balanced and also removes stress. It should always be done after bath.
We should always wear clean clothes. Our clothing should be in accord with nature. In summers we should wear light and cotton clothes and during the winters we should go for woolen clothes. Ayurveda prescribes wooden sandals/shoes rather than animal skin or rubber shoes.
Around 1/3 of our day is consumed by work, which gives us a sense of worth, which in turn affects our life in many ways. Therefore, the nature of work you do should match well with your prakriti.
A light breakfast with lots of fruits is a healthy breakfast. Less intake of calories and more intake of nutrients is the best method for anti-aging.
According to Ayurveda the right time for dinner is between 6-7 pm and the dinner should be light. A light walk after dinner is also prescribed. One must avoid skipping dinner.
One should retire to bed by around 10 pm. A sleep of at least seven hours is required for good health. During sleep our body and mind rejuvenate the most. It is prescribed to sleep on right side as it is more relaxing.
